About LETA
Low Emission Technology Australia (LETA) is a not-for-profit investment fund accelerating the development and large-scale deployment of technology solutions to reduce and remove greenhouse gas emissions from hard-to-abate industries such as steel, cement, and power generation.
Originally established by the Australian coal industry, LETA’s membership has expanded to include hard-to-abate industries, the services that support them, and research institutions and technology partners in Australia and around the world. LETA’s investments unlock faster, more cost-effective pathways to net zero for industries that are critical to Australia’s economy, provide thousands of Australian jobs, and support households every day.
LETA invests in leading-edge projects across the energy and manufacturing lifecycle, with a portfolio focus on:
- Reducing emissions from resource extraction and mining operations
- Advanced near-zero emission, on-demand power generation and clean fuels such as hydrogen, using coal, natural gas, or biomass
- Lowering the cost and improving the efficiency of carbon capture across industries, including steel, cement, and fertiliser production
- Facilitating partnerships between Australian industries and international trading partners to develop large-scale carbon capture hubs
- Developing cost-effective, large-scale transport solutions for captured CO₂
- Commercial utilisation of captured CO₂, including in food and beverage manufacturing and construction
- Improving efficiency, reducing costs, and developing new opportunities for permanent and safe CO₂ storage.
LETA’s work ensures low-emission technologies are a practical and scalable part of the energy mix. Working with Australian industry and international partners, LETA is focused on a vision of carbon stewardship, where emissions are reduced or removed at every step of the lifecycle of hard-to-abate industries.
