About CarbonNet
CarbonNet has the potential to be one of Australia’s largest carbon dioxide transport and storage projects, designed to reduce industrial emissions and support Victoria’s transition to net zero by 2045.
Located off the Gippsland coast in the Bass Strait, CarbonNet’s two storage sites Pelican and Kookaburra have the capacity to safely capture and permanently store 350Mt of CO₂. Established in 2009, CarbonNet is funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments and is currently pursuing pathways to commercialisation with the aim of securing a development partner with whom to jointly progress the project to a final investment decision (FID) and ultimately operation.
