John Kaldi is Emeritus Professor of Petroleum Geology and Engineering in the School of Chemical Engineering, Adelaide University, Australia. He has been at the University since 1998, first as Director of the National Centre for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, and then as founder and Head of the Australian School of Petroleum (ASP). He holds the South Australia State Chair in Carbon Capture & Storage and is the Distinguished Scientist for the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC). He is also an Adjunct Professor at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia. John received his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in geology from Queens College, City University of New York, and PhD in Geology from Cambridge University in the UK. Prior to academia he spent 18 years in the Petroleum Industry in both technical and managerial roles with Shell, Arco and Vico. John has been a Distinguished Lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) and the Petroleum Exploration Association of Australia (PESA), He has contributed over 150 journal articles and technical conference papers. This year he was the recipient of the Sidney Powers Award, AAPG’s highest honour.
